THE HEART BEHIND B.D. HAVEN

Because heroes deserve a place to call home.
Our mission began with someone we loved.
B.D. Haven honors two names in our family: Buddy, my grandfather, and Doug, my father. Their names are part of a legacy that we carry into our work for veterans.
My father was a homeless veteran. Like many people who have served our country, he valued his independence and his dignity. He was too proud to live with his children because he did not want to feel like a burden. Watching his experience helped me understand how deeply a veteran can want independence, personal space, and a place to call home.
His experience taught me that asking for help can mean wanting a safe place to stand on your own while you rebuild, regroup, and move forward. After serving our country and being responsible for others, many veterans want their own routine and the ability to maintain their independence. They should not have to choose between independence and a safe place to live.
B.D. Haven was created from that personal place in my heart. Our purpose is to honor veterans by providing safe, stable housing in a respectful community. We want to offer more than a roof: a place where veterans can maintain their dignity, establish stability, and focus on their next chapter.
Our shared housing offers two residents per bedroom. Within that shared environment, our goal is to respect each person’s independence, personal belongings, and daily routine while building a community where everyone treats one another with consideration.
The least we can do for the men and women who have served our country is to honor their service by helping them access safe and stable housing. We cannot change every circumstance that brought someone here, but we can work to create a place where a veteran does not have to face those circumstances alone.
Needing housing does not take away a veteran’s independence, accomplishments, or worth. B.D. Haven is meant to be a place to take a breath, get organized, build stability, and work toward the next goal.
We ask everyone in our community to help protect that purpose: respect the home, fellow residents, staff, and neighbors; take pride in personal space; follow community guidelines; and speak up when assistance is needed. Every resident deserves dignity and respect.
To the veterans we hope to welcome: thank you for your service, your sacrifice, and your commitment to our country. Our hope is that B.D. Haven gives you the stability, independence, peace, and opportunity you deserve.
